Q&A- Can you tell me about yourself?
Greetings! My name is Adaobi Mozie. I’m 28 years old born in Lagos, Nigeria. I am an artist, chef, and wellness professional currently living in LA. Everything I do now is a direct extension of my interests as a kid and I feel very blessed to have been supported through countless opportunities to express and develop my creative side from a very early age.
I had been recognized for my art from age 8 having being published in a children’s book and have flourished artistically since then. From showing my work in France, solo and group shoes, high-profile commissions, and murals, I’ve been able to create an inter-dimensional universe through my art. I am inspired by ancient Igbo philosophy, culture, and spirituality. I draw lots of inspiration from nature and human connections.
I started my career as a chef in 2017 when I launched my healing foods business Cosmic Kichin. I began sharing recipes using natural ingredients that mainstream just wasn’t talking about yet. The response was so genuine and inspiring. I realized that our community was missing education and inspiration for starting a holistic wellness journey. I shared information on the alkaline lifestyle and soon enough was cooking and demonstrating for celebrities, community organizations, and international wellness retreats.
The world of health-conscious eating led me into getting certified as a doula and a master energy healer. I opened up my spa studio in 2021 and have been offering my services to the LA community with love. Now, I integrate my knowledge of art, African traditions, and spirituality with my passion for food, and my education in womb wellness and energy healing to create a balanced holistic approach to healing.
Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
In 5-10 years I see myself living off the grid on my own property diving deeper into self and having full creative freedom to flow into whatever space calls for my attention. Whether it be global art projects, cookbooks, working with kids, businesses, or farming, and so much more, I see no limits. I also see my work making huge impacts in communities big and small. Creating spaces for love and healing and being a confident and trusted healer and guide.
What projects are you working on right now?
I am currently working on rebranding my business Cosmic Kichin. I’ve added a couple of members to the team and am no longer a one-man show. I am excited about the new direction and the creative process has been so energizing. Soon enough we’ll be launching products that will change the food world.
How would you describe your personal fashion and style aesthetics?
For me, comfort equals confidence and confidence is the most important accessory to any outfit. I prioritize fit over fashion so I pull pieces from lots of different places regardless of the price tag or brand name. I love playing with earthy tones, quality fabrics, one-of-a-kind pieces from artists, and clothes from different cultures. I tend not to over-accessorize and let the cuts and flow of the fabric speak for themselves.
What makes you unique?
My inner voice is what makes me unique. My ability to trust myself and my vision. No two people born on this earth are the same. We are all unique but sometimes we get caught up with expectations and fitting into boxes. My uniqueness comes from completely crushing those boxes and walking my own beautiful path. And I know celebrating my uniqueness inspires others to do the same.
What stories do your family and friends like to tell about you?
I treat people how I want to be treated. With kindness, patience, love, and a light heart. My family and friends would probably say that I have very strong boundaries but they never doubt the love. I love making people laugh so I know they’d say I’m funny. And I believe that love can be tasted in food. So my friends and family have definitely gotten the best of me when it comes to my cooking and I humbly receive their praises.
When are you at your happiest?
I am at my happiest when Im surrounded by my family and friends. I know that sounds cliche but sometimes it feels like the world we live in makes it harder and harder to stay connected. When I have those moments of making it home for the holidays, celebrating birthdays and weddings, or showing up for big moments, I’m overflowing with so much gratitude and love. No amount of money can buy moments like that.
