The Revival of Fashion Week by Cyan Leigh Dacasin
2021 marked the comeback of Fashion weeks around the world, as we see countries gradually lift their travel restrictions. Paris, London, New York, and Milan opened their doors for the in-person shows that enthusiasts clamoured for. The stars and their society counterparts were finally able to view shows and attend fittings after the two-year lockdown that closed off the idea of having in-person fashion shows.
Big brands such as Chanel, Zuhair Murad, Christian Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent launched collection showcases that were lauded for their visuals and design aesthetics by creating head-turning shows with beautiful couture pieces worth spending thousands on.
This year also had a lot of surprises as new designers enter with a fresh mindset amid the post-pandemic reality we are in.
For designers such as Andrew Gn, Nostalgia was one of the main inspirations he had as he showcased the AndrewGnXCorals campaign -- inspired by his love for BOOM! Starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton -- Taking on the 50s and 60s glam with a modern touch by bringing in power shoulders and structured yet flowy silhouettes that made BOOM! such an epic classic.
Another new face that is rising above the cut is British born Korean couturier Miss Sohee Park. The Central St. Martins designer became famous for her girlish silhouettes, dressing the likes of Ariana Grande, Bella Hadid, and most recently, Gemma Chan for the Marvel Eternals premiere.
Finally, not one to be left out-- Daniel Del Core, the Gucci Alum who made his debut in the middle of the pandemic during a very strict run of Milan Fashion Week. He takes his inspiration from the outlandish and undeniably inspired by sci-fi, mutant glamour, and mould. Some would say, he took inspiration from the unique ecosystem of the Amazons with his couture creations, which makes Del Core one to watch out for.
