5 Sustainable Brands to Watch Out For by Cyan Leigh Dacasin

Nowadays, everyone is going green and sustainable. In Fashion alone, a lot of big brands are making statements to do the 3Rs (Reduce, Re-use, Recycle) and operate on sustainable standards.

But while the big names and high-street brands are opting to change things up by creating a new manifesto to combat climate change there are already others who are in the game for a long time. Most are cult but with growing followers.

With fashionable trends always referring back to the glory days of the 50s-80s, it is not hard to re-style or interpret these styles with a touch of modernity.

Here are the 5 sustainable brands that NOW Magazine LA wants you to keep an eye out for.

  1. MaisonCléo

MaisonCléo is a mother and daughter tandem brand that you have to watch out for. Taking inspiration from re-using deadstock fabrics and turning them into simple and worked pieces that are classy and structured with having the French touch in every article of clothing created by also making sure that the pieces are established by being specially designed by the mother,  Cléo herself and being authentically made in France .

Daughter Marie, on the otherhand, sees the brand as a way to raise awareness on the consequences of fast fashion and the great impact it has on the environment. MaisonCléo’s concept centered around Marie’s mother who is a talented seamstress. Asked why the name Cléo, It is the nickname of my mother since her twenties. Old friends call her only “Cléo” and never by her real name.

Cléo refers to Cléopâtre and to the black short hair, black eyeliner and gold big jewels she used to wear in her youth. She also always matched her outfit with a scrunchie, so that’s why we offer a matching scrunchie with each order made in the leftovers.
