The Fashion of Super Bowl's Past

The SuperBowl, and its halftime show, is one of the most watched televised events of the year. The music industry’s biggest celebrities have performed in past years such as Madonna, Beyoncé,Maroon 5, and Bruno Mars. Along with their dance routines and song choices, artists’ fashion makes a big impact on their performance. The outfits add to the general aesthetic of the performance and must be comfortable enough for singers and dancers to move around freely. As we get ready for the Superbowl this weekend, here are some notable looks over the years from halftime performers:

Super Bowl XLI 2007 The late icon Prince took the stage in 2007 wearing an electric blue suit and orange blouse. His look was very on brand for the Prince aesthetic and he strummed along with an eccentric purple custom-made guitar.

Super Bowl LIV 2020  Shakira and Jennifer Lopez united for the 2020 halftime show and honored their culture in a huge way. Both sported shiny, bedazzled jumpsuits and had no problems moving their hips! While JLO shined in silver, Shakira dominated in red and gold. These ladies might have caused a small earthquake with their moves, but they looked great doing it.

Super Bowl LV 2021 The Weeknd and his team wore sparkly red suit jackets with black gloves and trousers for their performance. His dancers wore all white bandages as an ode to the recurring character on his album visuals. The Weeknd said the face covering was a commentary on the “absurd culture of Hollywood celebrity.”

Super Bowl 2022 Mary J Blidge, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, and Eminem joined forces and delivered an iconic rap caviar for the fans. Snoop Dogg, of course, wore an all blue outfit honoring his Inglewood roots. Dr. Dre and Kendrick wore all black outfits while Mary J. Blidge had on a sparkling silver bodysuit. This SuperBowl performance was a bit untraditional with so many headliners, but the artists kept it simple and tough in traditional rap fashion.

This Sunday, February 12th, Rhianna has taken on the challenge of entertaining millions during the big game and the fashion and beauty mogul will likely impress us with her fit
