The Ultimate Barbie Fashion Guide: Get Dolled Up With These Six Outfits

The day we have all been anticipating is finally almost upon us, and nearly everyone is planning their perfectly pink attire in honor of America’s favorite blonde, Barbie. That’s right, Barbie is hitting theaters this Friday, July 21st, and SO much needs to be done. Aside from getting sparkly pink martinis with the girls and running to your local Cold Stone for their ultimate Barbie creation, All That Glitters Is Pink, you need to ensure you have the perfect outfit planned for the opening night.

Margot Robbie, the beloved actress who is portraying our dear Barbie in the film, has set the fashion bar high this summer with all of her Barbie looks. From her “Solo in the Spotlight” Barbie reference on the pink carpet to her “Enchanted Evening” Barbie look designed by Vivienne Westwood for the film’s press tour, Robbie has truly outdone herself in her Barbie transformation.

Whether you’d like to pay homage to the iconic Barbie dolls from the past or simply create a new look of your own, here are six outfits that will help you channel your inner Barbie.

  1. The OG

There is no better way to honor our lovely Barbie than to recreate her very first look, so this outfit is inspired by the very first Barbie doll released in the 1950s. While this vintage Barbie edition definitely lacks the nostalgic pink tones, she looks just as stunning in her retro black and white striped bodysuit, black pumps, and mini silver hoops.

2. Modern Barbie

An actual doll doesn’t inspire this Barbie look, but I wish it did! The pale pink shade of the dress and beautiful rosette details screamed “Barbie” to me… so of course I had to put together an entire outfit with the piece. The simplicity of the glossy pearls and white pumps adds the perfect touch of elegance to this Barbie look without taking any attention away from the dress.

3. Blue Sweetheart

While usually I’d hate to stray away from the pink tones, I absolutely could not resist when I saw this eccentric sky-blue dress from Cult Gaia. The feather detailing felt nostalgic and almost reminded me of a dress I would have seen in the Barbie At Swan Lake film. This look might not be the ideal pink Barbie fantasy, but I think it qualifies as the perfect doll outfit and would make our beloved Barbie proud.

4. Totally Hair Barbie

Circling back to the Barbie doll references, this Barbie was actually the inspiration for one of Margot Robbie’s looks on the press tour. As soon as I saw her take on the famous Totally Hair Barbie outfit, I knew I wanted to recreate this look as well— but with my own twist. While the original Barbie doll is dressed in a long sleeve marble dress, I was envisioning something a little less snug. I then came across the most heavenly tube dress from Pucci that matched the doll’s original dress almost perfectly. Complimented by magenta accessories, this outfit is ideal for the summer heat and a stunning reference to the 1992 Totally Hair Barbie.

5. Western Bombshell

The Western Barbie edition is one of the many featured Barbie dolls in the upcoming film. While Margot Robbie’s real-life Western Barbie look was incredibly on the money, I thought it’d be fun to switch up the color tones and vibe of the entire outfit. This look is all about pastel pink shades, and this set from Lovers And Friends is the perfect color. The lovely little Gucci neck scarf and white Camila Coelho boots are what truly make the outfit iconic, channeling both Western Barbie and west coast bombshell all in one look.

6. Ballerina Angel

If you spent years dreaming of becoming a ballerina princess when you grow up like I did, you will absolutely love this ballerina Barbie-inspired look. Aside from the beautiful shade of bubblegum pink, the puffy sleeves and tutu silhouette of the dress are reminiscent of dresses worn by ballerina dolls years ago. This look requires dainty jewelry that won’t outshine the dress but instead tie the look together. For the cherry on top, slip on these satin lace-up heels and wear your hair up with these gorgeous bow barrettes from Emi Jay.
